Boat Crash Update: ID Released For Man Killed When Vessel Struck Long Island Home

Authorities have identified a man who was killed when a boat crashed into a home on Long Island, sending a second man to the hospital.

The incident happened at around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, on West Fire Island in the Great South Bay.

According to Suffolk County Police, two men were aboard a 30-foot Wellcraft center console boat when it struck a dock before crashing into a home.

On Friday, Aug. 11, police said 47-year-old Phillip Sanzano, of Bellport, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second man, a 47-year-old West Babylon resident, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Nobody inside the home was injured.

Pictures shared by News12 Long Island show the vessel on its side, having crashed into the home’s wooden deck.

Two dogs were also on the boat and were not injured, according to the outlet.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call Suffolk County Police at 631-854-8352.
